The Latji Latji Nation is centred around Mildura and includes dramatic geographical features at Lindsay Walpolla Island and Hattah Lakes. The Latji Latji has close ancestral connections to its neighbours the Mutti Mutti and Ngarrindjeri – particularly through trade and marriage.
As well as being involved on MLDRIN since its beginnings, the Latji Latji Native Title group has negotiated the Mildura Marina Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) between itself, the Wergaia Native Title group and the Mildura Rural City Council. This Agreement cleared the way for the (AUD) $70 million dollar marina project.
The Agreement also allows the council to proceed with this development and provides employment and training opportunities for the native title group. In addition, agreement also provides consent to all future development in the ILUA area, including for Mildura’s river frontage.
